Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors Recognizes High Standards with Best Overall Surveyors’ Award

Land Grant Surveyors of Lancaster PA Is the First to Win Best Overall Award

Winning the first ever Best Overall Award from the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors at the society’s annual conference is an honor that Land Grant Surveys, LLC’s president, Steven C. Black, PLS, did not anticipate. “Our surveyors strive to provide the highest quality drawings and reports every day for our clients. We do that so their projects are accurate and have no surprises. To have the Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors’ special panel of judges validate our commitment to accuracy and excellence makes me extremely proud that our corporate vision matters.”

The Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors hosts its annual Annual Surveyors’ Conference in Hershey, PA, with workshops, exhibits and key surveying industry speakers as well as a Plat Competition. The Plat Competition features entries from across the state of Pennsylvania.

Land Grant Surveyors won Plat Awards for all four of the drawings they entered in four separate categories:

  • First place black and white ALTA/ACSM survey which also won best in overall show (The Keith Corp – Tractor Supply Gettysburg)
  • First place black and white Topographic survey (ELA Group – Saint Anne’s Home for the Aged)
  • First place color ALTA/ACSM survey (The Keith Corp – Tractor Supply Sinking Spring)
  • Second place color Topographic survey (MCS Lancaster DE Holding, LP – Mill Creek Square)

The Best Overall Award recognizes the exceptional work within the ALTA/ACSM Black and White Category for a plat (which is a map in scale that accurately represents land).The surveys are judged by a panel of judges rating on a scale of 1 to 10 in each of the following categories: Neatness in Presentation, Content Relative to Category, Layout Innovation, Interpretability, and Applicability.  Land Grant Surveyors has entered the competition for six years and has placed every year, including eight first place winners, five second place winners, and one third place winner.

Black praised employee Daniel L. Lynn, CAD Tech II for his skilled CAD drafting of the surveys which contributed to achieving the high quality of the plats, saying, “Dan has been with LGS for over xxx years and continually improves his techniques as technology enables us to create more accurate plats. We are proud to have him on our team.”

Scott R. Reeser, PLS, Sayre Survey Manager at Dawood Engineering, Inc., serves as chair of the Plat Competition Sub-Committee and secretary of Pennsylvania Society of Land Surveyors.

Reeser shared, “We introduced the Best Overall Plat Award this year because we wanted to showcase the best of the best and set the bar high for our member surveyors. This Plat recognition inspires both idea sharing and technical excellence. We’d like to congratulate Steve Black and the team at Land Grant Surveyors for serving as a great model.”
